New Approaches for Assessing Properties
Real Estate Training
As part of its efforts to promote land revitalization, EPA has offered
real estate training courses to help public officials and employees at
the national, state, and local levels appreciate the needs of the real
estate community as they relate to governmental regulation–particularly
land use and environmental regulation. The objective of the training is
to broaden understanding of the real estate development process, whether
public or private, and to help private developers understand the role
that public officials, employees, and communities play in the revitalization
process. For more information about real estate training at EPA, contact
Bonnie Casper at 703-603-7152 or (casper.bonnie@epa.gov).
Insurance Training
EPA has hosted real estate development training workshops in several regions
across the country. The workshops bring together EPA Regional and State
regulators and grant administrators to learn about the potential role
of insurance and other risk management mechanisms in property cleanup
and reuse. It explores the applicability of these tools to the full range
of waste programs including Brownfields, RCRA, Superfund, and Underground
Storage Tanks.
Training on Reuse Assessments
EPA is providing EPA managers and staff training on how to use Reuse
Assessments (PDF) (24 pp, 83K, About PDF), a
new tool devised to help implement its Land Use in the CERCLA
Remedy Selection Process Land Use Directive. The training includes
interactive opportunities for participants and training exercises, and
is designed to assist site managers (RPMs and OSCs) in: understanding
the elements required to write a reuse assessment; applying the information
contained in the reuse assessment to remedy selection; and utilizing information
provided in a reuse assessment and development plan when designing a remedy.
