About SmartWay

The SmartWay Transport Partnership, introduced on February 9, 2004, is an innovative collaboration between the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the freight industry.

SmartWay is designed to promote creative approaches to reducing the energy and environmental impact of transport through a combination of strategies including more efficient tires, better aerodynamics, lower speeds, reduced idling, improved logistics, effective use of intermodal options, improved packaging, driver education and tire maintenance, among others.

Participating companies benchmark their current freight operations, identify technologies and strategies to reduce their carbon emissions, tract emissions reductions, and project future improvements. SmartWay partners demonstrate to customers, clients and investors that they are taking responsibility for the emission associated with goods movement, and that they are reducing their carbon footprint.
