Waste Minimization for the Drug Manufacturing and Processing Industries: (1994. free) - This document was developed by the State of California's Environmental Protection Agency to give examples of waste minimization/pollution prevention opportunities in the drug manufacturing and processing industry. To order call (916) 322- 3670.
Chemical Industry Compliance Assistance Tools- There are
several general compliance assistance tools available for the chemical
industry. Although the purpose of these documents is to increase the
understanding of environmental regulations affecting the chemical
industry, they do contain some pollution prevention information. Of
particular note, is ChemAlliance
, the new compliance assistance center for the chemical industry.
Among its features is an exciting "expert help desk", which
offers an interactive guide to finding compliance resources specific
to a user's needs. In addition, EPA developed profiles of the inorganic
chemical industry, organic chemical industry, pharmaceuticals, and
petroleum refineries which contain information on pollution prevention
opportunities. For further information about these tools, call Ron
Lockwood at (212) 637-3413 or email him at lockwood.ron@epa.gov.
Pollution Prevention in the Petroleum Refinery Industry -
(1995.$5.00 ) This document was developed by the Canadian Centre for
Pollution Prevention (C2P2) to assist the Canadian petroleum refining
industry to act on the opportunities presented by a pollution prevention
approach to environmental management. An excellent primer for getting
started, at all levels, in a petroleum refinery facility. To order,
contact the C2P2 at 1-800-667-9790 or 519-337-3423; Fax: 519-337-3486;
Email: c2p2@sarnia.com
Environmental Dividends: Cutting More Chemical Wastes - (1992, $75) is a manual developed by INFORM, Inc. that documents evidence of the environmental and economic benefits of preventing the generation of toxic and hazardous waste through an in-depth analysis of 181 specific source reduction activities at 29 chemical manufacturing plants. To obtain a copy, call INFORM, Inc. at 212-361-2400.
Pollution Prevention in the Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Sector - This site provides fact sheets on choosing and using alternatives to ozone depleting refrigerants in air conditioning and refrigeration systems
Programs/Projects
EPA's Green Chemistry Program recognizes and promotes chemical technologies that reduce or eliminate the use or generation of hazardous substances during the design, manufacture, and use of chemical products and processes. More specifically, the Green Chemistry Program supports fundamental research in the area of environmentally benign chemistry as well as a variety of educational activities, international activities, conferences and meetings, and tool development, all through voluntary partnerships with academia, industry, and other government agencies.
