In 1980, after observing how the company handled its wastes, the State ordered it to sample groundwater and clean up the site as necessary. On-site ground water and soil contains heavy metals and volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which are potentially harmful contaminants that can easily evaporate into the air.
The State began an investigation into the extent of the soil, subsurface soil, and ground water contamination. EPA completed the soil portion of the investigation and the ground water investigation. Based on the information gathered from the investigations, EPA has decided on a long-term cleanup plan to address the contamination at the site. Current human exposures at this site are under control.
