Background

Northern Indiana Public Service Company (NIPSCO) Bailly Generating Station is a coal-fired power plant located on the shore of Lake Michigan in northwest Indiana. The facility occupies approximately 300 acres and is adjacent to a portion of the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. NIPSCO produces and supplies electricity to the northern third of Indiana and has been in operation since 1962. EPA is currently proposing remedies for the operational, or industrial, parts of the facility while we continue to investigate the sensitive Indiana Dunes that are adjacent to the facility.
