Limited English Proficiency
On August 11, 2000, President Clinton signed Executive Order 13166 entitled, "Improving Access to Services for Persons with Limited English Proficiency." This Executive Order calls on all federal departments and agencies to develop guidance for Title VI recipients of federal assistance and internal plans to increase access to programs and services by people with limited English proficiency.
EPA is committed to providing meaningful access to our programs and services so that LEP persons become more aware of environmental and public health issues, and are able to make decisions that affect their lives and their local environment.
As a result of this initiative, the EPA developed three key documents:
- EPA Fact
Sheet on Executive Order 13166
- Draft Title VI Guidance for EPA Assistance Recipients
