The Ecosystem & Subsurface Protection Branch conducts research into assessing potential impacts of manmade and natural processes (physical, chemical, and biological) on aquatic (surface and subsurface) and terrestrial systems, and ecosystems, with the goal of developing strategies for mitigation of these impacts on receptor environments. Their focus is not only on ground water, but on surface water systems and contaminant transport through surface/ ground water interactions. Attainment of this goal is through the development of strategies for the mitigation and remediation of anthropogenic stressors through ecosystem restoration alternatives to promote the long-term viability and sustainability of the nation's natural resources.
