Applicants must be public-sector entities in the United States and coordinate with their local Area Agency on Aging. Public-sector entities include all levels of elected governments, from city councils to state legislatures, and their constituent parts such as planning departments and other executive branch divisions. Tribal governments are also encouraged to apply. Nonprofit or private organizations and individuals are eligible for a new neighborhood award. All applicants must submit with their application a letter of support from the local or state Area Agency on Aging.
All applications must demonstrate that significant activity (e.g., permitting, development, financing, implementation, construction) related to the project, policy, or program occurred within the last five years. (Policies, projects, and programs may have commenced prior to five years ago, but the award will be made for activities that occurred during the last five years.)
