Below the Surface

Intergenerational Description of Joint Project

Me and my Mom both have extreme interest in the ocean. We both combined our thoughs and put them into this paper. We wrote down our thoughts on seperate pieces of paper, then put the most interesting ones here. It was special working with my Mom because I got to see her point of view and I loved working with her.

Celebration of Rachel Carson’s Sense of Wonder

It incorporated the ocean and the life below, and the ocean is part of nature.

Below the Surface

Ocean: noun: The vast body of water that covers almost three fourths of the earth’s surface.

A boring borderline description of what our oceans are, but it’s not just a body of water it’s a whole other world. What is the ocean? Well lets start from where we stand, with sand between our toes, the ocean waves, sending a gleaming bright hello. Its cold touch pierces your skin, but somehow draws you in. As you walk further into its being, you start to experience the wonders of the sea. Peering deeper into the marine with every gliding step, the piercing cold water is about to take over. We’ve reached our limit as the waves crash above our heads. The little creatures that swim around us is all that seems to exist. We have more common sense, and know there are plenty more, but what we don’t know is how many? Where are they? What do they look like?

As we stand frozen looking over the ocean that disappears into the horizon, we wonder what life is like in the coral reef, the pitch black caves, or in the middle of the deep blue sea. As we continue to live our lives, the creatures here live theirs wondering what is like, as they do the same. This vast body of ocean, has many things that have been seen as well as many things that have been unseen. Thats the beauty of nature not knowing the unknown, as we stand with sand between our toes overlooking the never ending ocean, all we can do is wonder what’s beneath.
