| Description |
The grant program is intended to provide assistance to utilities, independent power producers, local governments, and tribal governments to develop renewable energy projects. Grants can be requested for all stages of project planning, such as feasibility studies, energy resource monitoring, and work related to the design and construction of eligible facilities. Projects on the Railbelt, Juneau, Sitka, Ketchikan, Wrangell, and Petersburg electrical grids are eligible for up to $2 million, while projects in other locations are eligible for up to $4 million (in one round). Grants for reconnaissance and feasibility analysis/conceptual design are capped at $500,000 or 20 percent of anticipated construction costs. Total costs of final design/permitting and construction are limited to $2 million or $4 million depending on the location of the project. A project may receive funding up to the limits imposed above in more than one round. Costs incurred before the effective date of the grant funds are not eligible for reimbursement. |
