Peer Review
The Board of Scientific Counselors (BOSC), a Federal Advisory Committee, reviews the research programs of EPA's Office of Research and Development (ORD) to evaluate their relevance, quality, performance, and scientific leadership. The independent external peer panel's evaluation and recommendations provide guidance to ORD in the planning and implementation of its research. The reviews assist ORD to:
- Help plan, implement, and strengthen the program
- Compare research with other programs designed to achieve similar outcomes in other parts of the Agency and in other Federal agencies
- Make research investment decisions over the next 5 years
- Prepare EPA's performance and accountability reports to Congress under the Government Performance and Results Act
- Respond to evaluations of federal research, such as those conducted by the Office of Management and Budget (OMB).
