Axial fans can move high volumes of gas. Accordingly, they are very good for ventilation of work areas and general cooling. However, most axial fan designs are not able to generate the pressure increases necessary to overcome the gas flow resistance encountered in most air pollution control systems and their associated ductwork. For this reason, axial fans are not used extensively in air pollution control applications.
