Microbial Commercial Activity Notice (MCAN) for modified Saccharomyces cerevisiae from Novozymes North America, Inc., J-13-0008
On April 16, 2013, the Office of Pollution Prevention and Toxics (OPPT) received a Microbial Commercial Activity Notice (MCAN) from Novozymes North America, Inc. submitted under the biotechnology regulations promulgated under the Toxic Substances Control Act (62 FR 17910 (April 11, 1997); codified at 40 C.F.R. Part 725). The MCAN was given the EPA tracking designation J-13-0008. The recipient microorganism is a Saccharomyces cerevisiae strain which was modified to produce the new microorganism. The generic name for the new microorganism is S. cerevisiae, cbi strain. S. cerevisiae is commonly known as baker’s yeast or brewer’s yeast. This microorganism will be used in ethanol production.
