National Association of Local Government Environmental ProfessionalsEPA BROWNFIELDS PROGRAMEPA's Brownfields Program empowers states, tribes, communities, and other stakeholders to work together to prevent, assess, safely clean up, and sustainably reuse brownfields. A brownfield site is real property, the expansion, redevelopment, or reuse of which may be complicated by the presence or potential presence of a hazardous substance, pollutant, or contaminant. EPA funds eligible applicants through assistance agreements to provide training, research, and technical assistance to facilitate brownfields revitalization. ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTIONThe National Association of Local Government Environmental Professionals (NALGEP) is a nonprofit association representing local government officials who are responsible for ensuring environmental compliance and implementing environmental programs. NALGEP's membership includes more than 165 local government environmental professionals located throughout the United States, and was created to assist those at the local government level who are responsible for dealing with environmental concerns. The Brownfield Communities Network (BCN) is managed by NALGEP. The BCN is a national network of over 850 brownfield practitioners working to demonstrate how the cleanup and redevelopment of contaminated property can be an effective tool for community revitalization. The BCN works to harness the knowledge, expertise, and experience of leading communities and export it to its peers.
