CHP - An Alternative to Increasing Electricity and Gas Rates?
December 15, 2006, Baltimore, Maryland

The Mid-Atlantic CHP Application Center (MAAC) of the University of Maryland is offering a one day workshop to explore combined heat and power (CHP) as an alternative to continued purchases of high cost energy. On-site generation with CHP improves overall electricity reliability, reduces emissions (including greenhouse gases), and brings electricity costs more under the end user's direct control.

This one-day workshop is for individuals who are facing increasing energy costs and are evaluating options for reducing those costs—such as schools, universities, health care and hospital campuses, commercial and institutional buildings. It will include the following sessions:

Cogeneration for the Sugar Industry Conference
November 28-29, 2006, Bangkok, Thailand

Cogeneration for the Sugar Industry was jointly organized by International Sugar Journal and World Alliance for Decentralized Energy (WADE) in cooperation with F.O. Licht. It examined the enormous potential for cogenerated heat and power from bagasse to reduce costs, eliminate waste, and provide new revenue streams for sugar millers.

Cogeneration for the Sugar Industry analyzed the benefits as well as exploring the prospects for government support, the attitudes of the power sector and the technical challenges in maximizing efficiency. Combining the sugar industry expertise and reputation of International Sugar Journal and F.O. Licht reports—with the specialist knowledge of WADE—the conference attracted sugar millers from Thailand and throughout Asia, along with utilities, key governmental officials and electricity generating equipment manufacturers.

Smart Energy Solutions: Combined Heat and Power for Hospitals, Universities, Wastewater Treatment, Commercial and Manufacturing Facilities
September 29, 2006, Springfield, Massachusetts

The Massachusetts Energy Efficiency Partnership (MAEEP) is holding a workshop for energy end-users and decision-makers in the Northeast. The program is designed to provide information on cost effective opportunities for combined heat and power (CHP), or recycling energy on-site, at your facility.

The program will provide a basic outlook on CHP for institutional, commercial and industrial facilities. Presenters will showcase case studies—providing real examples of cost-effective technology applications in businesses just like yours! In addition, it will provide an overview of the current technologies and application resources for CHP equipment.

Learn about incentives, financing strategies, and general "rules of thumb" that will assist you in moving your project from idea to reality. Start saving money on energy sooner, provide power security and reliability to critical infrastructure needs, and utilize fuel and resources more efficiently for a cleaner environment.

In addition to the morning workshop, join us at a networking lunch and learn how the U.S. Department of Energy is promoting distributed generation and CHP through EPACT 2005 and the Office of Electricity. Enjoy a tour of the Basketball Hall of Fame after our conference ends.

Visit the MAEEP Web Page for program information and registration details.
