| Size of Award | The Department of Energy (DOE) is seeking applicants for its Integrated Biorefinery Operations for Producing Biofuels and Chemical/Materials Products Program. This program will provide grants to small scale biorefinery demonstration projects and is listed under funding opportunity number DE-PS36-07GO97003. Funding is expected to be offered for five years (2007-2011) and the total amount available is $200 million. Funding has been made available by the Energy Policy Act (EPAct) of 2005, Section 932. The Department of Energy expects to issue 5-10 awards under this program. Awards will be in the $10 million to $30 million dollar range and the cost share must be at least 50%. |

| Additional Information | DOE seeks applications to design, construct, build and operate an integrated biorefinery demonstration employing lignocellulosic feedstocks for the production of combinations of: i) liquid transportation fuels; ii) biobased chemicals; iii) substitutes for petroleum-based feedstocks and products; The proposed biorefinery demonstration project should be one-tenth of the projected scale of a commercial facility. Furthermore, lignocellulosic feedstocks cannot include biomass components that are specifically grown for food. The project should be designed to produce at minimum 1.5 million gallons of biofuel per year or process 70 million dry metric tonnes per day of biofuels and products. DOE is also offering funding under section 932 of EPAct 2005 for a similar integrated biorefinery program, but the biorefinery must operate at the commercial scale. This other funding opportunity can be found under funding announcement number DE-PS36-06GO96-16. |
