| Critical Information | Central Vermont Public Service Corporation (CVPS), the state's largest electric utility, offers a production incentive to farmers who own systems utilizing anaerobic digestion of agricultural products, byproducts or wastes to generate electricity. CVPS purchases electricity at 95 percent of the Locational Marginal Price of generation published by ISO New England, which is roughly the avoided cost, plus an additional $0.04 per kWh. Eligible systems must be connected to the grid, although net metering is not available under this arrangement. |

| Additional Information | CVPS sells the renewable energy credits (RECs) and other environmental attributes generated under this arrangement as part of CVPS Cow Power, the utility's green power program. This program offers customers the opportunity to purchase renewable energy for $0.04 per kWh above the retail cost of electricity. According to CVPS, 1,960 retail customers, roughly 1.3 percent of its total customer base, are participating in the CVPS Cow Power tariff as of August 2005. Farms located out of CVPS' service territory are now allowed to participate in the program. Currently four farms are participating in the program. These farms have received over $660,000 in grants to help them develop generators. There is no program end date. |
