PPL Electric Utilities Corporation is undertaking a mulit-solicitation process to procure alternative energy credits (AECs) to meet its obligation under the Pennsylvania Alternative Energy Portfolio Standard (AEPS). There will eventually be a total of 14 RFPs, occuring roughly on a quarterly basis from July 21, 2009, through January 22, 2013. Under the Pennsylvania AEPS, CHP primarily qualifies as a Tier II resource, but can also qualify as a Tier I resource if it is biomass-fueled or if the prime mover is a fuel cell.
