Critical Information The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) will provide up to $200 million over the next five years (2007-2011) to promote the development of small scale cellulosic biorefineries in the United States. Funding for this program stems from Section 932 of the Energy Policy Act of 2005. Up to $15 million in funding was made available in 2007 and the remaining $185 million will be available over the next four years (subject to Congressional appropriation). Applicants must contribute at minimum 50 percent towards project costs.

Additional Information Eligible biorefinery projects must be at least 10 percent of full commercial scale and produce liquid transportation fuels or bioproducts used in industrial processes. Projects are expected to begin operation within 3-4 years, demonstrate advanced new technologies, and show collaboration between different energy organizations such as industry, universities and DOE national laboratories. Applications must be submitted through www.grants.gov. Please look for future funding announcements for fiscal years 2008-2011.
