Critical InformationThe Vermont Public Service Board (PSB) has separate interconnection standards for net-metered systems and distributed generation (DG) systems that are not net-metered. Each utility is required to name an employee or office where applicants can receive information regarding the application process.

Utilities must net meter all customers with photovoltaic, wind, fuel cells, or biomass systems up to 15kW in size (agricultural systems can be up to 150 kW) until the combined capacity equals 1.0% of a utility's peak demand. All systems up to 15 kW must have a disconnect switch. Systems must be tested initially and every two years to ensure that anti-islanding controls are working. Owners must have a minimum of $100,000 for liability insurance and at least $300,000 worth for farm and non-residential systems.

For non-net metered systems or DG rule, there is no maximum system for interconnection. There is a "fast track" process for specific DG systems that qualify that require no special studies. Systems not eligible for the expedited process must undertake a feasibility study, a system-impact study, and/or a facilities study.
