Attainment Technologies provides engine diagnostics, engineering design, and many other services, including project development. The company has developed a proprietary retrofit emissions reduction system (the GreenGuard) that significantly lowers NOx, CO, and Hazardous Air Pollutants (HAPs) on natural gas engines. Third-party tests have confirmed that the GreenGuard can meet the most stringent NOX standards, including the 2007 California Air Resources Board’s CHP standard. The GreenGuard uses Exhaust Gas Recirculation, along with tight combustion controls and a three-way catalyst to reduce emissions for all four-stroke and some two-stroke natural gas engines. Additionally, the GreenGuard can be applied to diesel engines that have been converted to 100 percent natural gas. Attainment Technologies has installed 23 GreenGuard systems, dating back to the Spring of 2002. Six CHP packaged units were recently installed at a large hotel/casino in Las Vegas, a CO nonattainment area. The project is the first CHP project in the City of Las Vegas, and was sized to satisfy the thermal needs of the site while providing 4.92 megawatts of electric power. Technicians remanufactured all six Caterpillar 3516 clean burn engines, increasing the fuel efficiency of each engine from 4 to 10 percent.
