Burns & McDonnell Engineering Co. actively develops, promotes, and implements CHP projects nationwide. The company is one of seven industry teams—the only engineering team—selected by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory to site, develop, and install a CHP development project Austin, Texas. DOE provided $3 million in cost-share funding for an $8.3 million CHP project. The project utilized a 4.6 MW Solar Turbines Centaur 50 nature gas-fired combustion turbine, indirectly using the exhaust to fire a 2,500-ton Broad Spectrum absorption chiller. This project surpassed Texas Commission on Environmental Quality standards without the use of any additional emissions-mitigating device.
