Headquartered in San Jose, California, Calpine Corporation has an energy portfolio comprised of 76 energy centers, with net ownership capacity of more than 19,000 MW and with projects in construction that will raise this level to 30,000 MW. Located in key power markets throughout the United States, these centers produce enough energy to meet the electrical needs of close to 19 million households. Combined heat and power (CHP) is an integral part of Calpine's Repower America strategy, which is the company's commitment to providing customers with clean, efficient, reliable electricity. Calpine has 34 CHP installations totaling almost 10,000 MW in operation or in construction, serving power and thermal energy to refineries, chemical plants, pulp and paper installations, and other large industrial and institutional facilities across the country. These CHP installations have displaced not only the steam generating assets of these industrial facilities, but have also displaced older, less efficient central utility generating stations, resulting in significantly reduced emissions.
