IDEA was formed in 1909 and currently supports over 1200 members worldwide in 25 countries who own, operate, design, construct and optimize district heating (steam, hot water distribution) and district cooling (chilled water distribution) systems in cities, campuses, healthcare, military bases, airports and communities. The aggregated thermal scale of district energy systems create opportunities to integrate CHP and cogeneration in the central plants that fully utilize available thermal energy.
