Maui Electric Company, Limited (MECO), is an investor-owned, publicly regulated electric utility serving the County of Maui in Hawaii. Under an RD&D collaborative with EPRI, MECO installed a CHP unit at the Grand Wailea Resort Hotel and Spa in Wailea, Maui. The unit became operational in December 2002. This customer-sited installation will help the utility and its customers assess emerging cogeneration and distributed generation technologies. Information will be gathered on the technical and economic feasibility of these applications in Hawaii's unique environment. A better understanding on the issues of cutomer-sited cogeneration, such as permitting, noise attenuation, and fuel delivery and storage will be gained and shared. | |
