The Northwest CHP Technical Assistance Partnership assists organizations with CHP projects that are economically viable and make efficient use of energy. District energy systems are also encouraged. The Northwest CHP Technical Assistance Partnership covers the states of Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Washington. Its headquarters are located at the Washington State University Extension Energy Program facilities in Olympia, Washington. This is one of the seven regional CHP technical assistance partnerships that work in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)'s Distributed Energy Program and with each other. The Northwest CHP Technical Assistance Partnership has strong state-based initiatives in place. Its areas of focus and expertise include: industrial CHP operated in cooperation with DOE's Industries of the Future program; district energy systems, including HeatMap CHP software, which is the international standard for district energy system design and redesign; waste heat to power systems such as Kalina and Organic Rankine Cycle; and legal, institutional, and regulatory aspects of CHP.
