The Grand Traverse Band EDC is a tribe that recently completed an energy audit and feasibility study of the commerical and residential facilities and homes on tribal and tribally-owned property. As a result of the study CHP has been highly recommended through woody biomass for the tribe's casino/hotel and resort/hotel. Currently both facilities are using 24 - 30 million kw of electricity per year with a 3 MW peak. The tribe is interested in the next steps towards implementation and development of CHP for these properties. The tribe does have a memorandum of agreement with a local non-profit light and power board, but is exploring all areas for potential partnership including a local COOP. In April 2009 the Grand Traverse Band EDC will be submitting another grant request to the Department of Energy for pre-construction costs of a 5 - 10 MW biomass plant. Tribal investment is also expected. | |
