Trigen is an operator of district heating and cooling networks in the United States with local franchises in 11 cities serving over 1,000 customers. Trigen's business model is to aggregate and serve thermal loads, and in some locations to consolidate these loads with electric demand through CHP applications that will reduce the carbon footprints of the communities the company serves. In December 2007, the Trigen Companies were acquired by Veolia Energy North America Holdings, Inc., a subsidiary of Veolia Environment (VE). VE, with its Dalkia affiliate, manages more than 96,000 energy sites around the world, including over 520 CHP plants and over 680 district heating and cooling networks.
