| Incentive Size and Funding Source | The Green Communities Act includes a rebate incentive for efficient CHP systems. For projects that are 150 kW or less, the incentive amount is $750 per kW X kW size. For systems larger than 150 kW, the specific amount is determined by the Program Administrator. The incentive value is determined on a case-by-case basis considering the value of CHP in the participating utility's overall energy efficiency portfolio, the project's benefit to cost ratio, the project's contribution to energy efficiency, project risk and customer investment threshold. All of the kilowatt-hours from CHP installed under the program are credited to serving the utility's energy efficiency goals. All incentives will be capped at 50% of the total installed cost of the CHP system. |
| Eligible Recipient | All owners of CHP systems are eligible, but the best applications are typically those with high annual hours of operation with near full use of the thermal output, including process industry (24/7) operation, as well as commercial applications such as hotels, hospitals, nursing homes, schools, colleges, laundries, health facilities and multi-unit apartments. |
| Eligible Fuel | Does Not Specify |
| Eligible Project Size (MW) | Does Not Specify |
| Minimum Efficiency Required (%) | >60% |
| Other Selected Eligibility Criteria | Specific requirements are determined by the applicable Program Administrator. Generally, equipment qualifying for CHP incentives include reciprocating engines, gas turbines (also commonly referred to as combustion turbines) and back pressure steam turbines which recover waste heat for useful purposes. It is important to note that for the purposes of receiving an incentive under this program, a CHP system must directly produce electricity and not simply offset the use of electricity. |
