Incentive Size and Funding SourceFocus on Energy offers free energy assessments that examine overall building performance. The program also offers two financial reward programs for the purchase and installation of equipment at existing buildings.

The Prescriptive Rewards Program offers a set dollar amount for specific measures that are one-for-one replacements or substitutions for specific equipment. Rewards exceeding $10,000 must receive program approval BEFORE installation. The maximum prescriptive reward with written approval is $200,000 per project.

The Custom reward structure for efficiency improvements has three tiers. The reward tiers are based on the percent improvement over the building's baseline energy usage. Tier 1 rewards are for projects that improve the building's energy usage up to 14.9%. Tier 2 rewards are for customers who improve the building's energy usage by over 15%. Savings estimates that achieve over 20% and elect to enroll in the benchmarking track will receive Tier 3 rewards. The benchmarking track is an optional component of Tiers 1 and 2, but is mandatory for Tier 3 rewards. Custom rewards are limited to no more than 50% of a project's cost without prior approval. The maximum reward for a custom project is $200,000 per project based on a maximum of $1.50/therm, $0.10/kWh and $200/kW savings. The maximum reward an individual customer may receive per calendar year is $400,000.

Other Incentive DetailsBefore applying for rewards through the Multifamily Energy Savings Program, you can receive a free energy assessment of your apartment or condo building. The assessment involves an evaluation and data collection of the building's equipment and systems. The Focus on Energy representative will examine the building's mechanical, HVAC and water heating systems, as well as appliances, insulation and air sealing. Based on the data gathered during the assessment, Focus on Energy will prescribe energy saving opportunities and solutions for your apartment or condo building.
