Planning and Measurement

State Advisory Board

Status: Completed

Details: Idaho's Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) serves as the state's climate change advisory board. On May 16, 2007, Governor Otter signed Executive Order 2007-05 directing the DEQ to develop a GHG emission inventory and provide recommendations to the Governor on how to reduce GHG emissions in Idaho.

GHG Inventory

Status: In Progress

Details: Member of The Climate Registry - a collaboration aimed at developing and managing a common GHG emissions reporting system across states, provinces, and tribes. It will provide an accurate, complete, consistent, transparent, and verified set of GHG emissions data from reporting entities, supported by a robust accounting and verification infrastructure. A draft General Reporting Protocol was released by members October 29, 2007. The Climate Registry plans to start accepting data in summer 2008. Idaho Department of Environmental Quality officials met for the first time on June 1, 2007, to discuss ways to implement a GHG reduction mandate from Governor Otter, per Executive Order 2007-05. Taking inventory of current emissions will be the first step toward implementing the new policy.
