Details: On November 14, 2007, Governor Jennifer Granholm issued Executive Order No. 2007-42 establishing the Michigan Climate Action Council. The council will issue a comprehensive climate action plan for Michigan by December 31, 2008.

Statewide GHG Target

Status: Proposed

Details: Member of the Midwestern Regional Greenhouse Gas Reduction Accord, signed on Nov. 15, 2007. Under the Accord, members agree to establish regional GHG reduction targets, including a long-term target of 60% to 80% below current emissions levels, and develop a multi-sector cap-and-trade system to help meet the targets.

Electricity Disclosure

Status: Completed

Details: Michigan's Customer Choice and Electric Reliability Act of 2000 (P.A. 141) requires electric suppliers to disclose fuel mix, amt. of nuclear waste, and emissions of SO2, CO2, and NOx.

GHG Registry

Status: In Progress

Details: Member of The Climate Registry - a collaboration aimed at developing and managing a common GHG emissions reporting system across states, provinces, and tribes. It will provide an accurate, complete, consistent, transparent, and verified set of GHG emissions data from reporting entities, supported by a robust accounting and verification infrastructure. Members released a final General Reporting Protocol in May 2008. The Climate Registry plans to start accepting data in summer 2008.
