Greenhouse
Gas Emissions from Management of Selected Materials in Municipal Solid
Waste - Final Report, September 1998 (1,164.8 KB
pdf)
This report is the first edition of the updated report, Solid
Waste Management and Greenhouse Gases: A Life-Cycle Assessment of Emissions
and Sinks. Many of the emission factors and underlying data and assumptions
have since been revised. In addition, the second edition includes emission
factors for new material categories (e.g., phone books, mixed metals).
Greenhouse
Gas Emissions Factors for Management of Selected Materials in Municipal
Solid Waste, February 1999 (77.4 KB pdf)
This paper summarizes the methodology and findings of EPA's greenhouse gas
(GHG) report (above), and describes GHG sources and sinks associated with materials
in the municipal solid waste stream and provides a table of emission factors
for various waste management options.
Greenhouse
Gas Emission Factors for Municipal Waste Combustion, April
1999 (172 KB pdf)
Summarizes the methodology and findings of the Greenhouse Gas Emissions
from Management of Selected Materials in Municipal Solid Waste report,
focusing briefly on methodological considerations for estimating GHG emissions
associated with combustion.
Presentation
at R'99 4th World Conference, February 4, 1999 (231.9 KB
pdf)
Provides an overview of municipal solid waste (MSW) practices in the U.S.,
the impact of MSW on U.S. GHG emissions, climate change programs under
EPA's Office of Solid Waste, and GHG emission factors for waste management.
Presentation
to the National Association of Counties, February
27, 1999 (261.1 KB pdf)
Discusses the link between climate change and solid waste management, research
efforts and results, and related programs under EPA's Office of Solid Waste.
Estimating
GHG Reductions From State Actions to Improve Solid Waste Management
Practices, December 1997 (33.7 KB pdf)
This is the original version of the revised report, Estimating
GHG Reductions From State Actions to Improve Solid Waste Management Practices.
This report has since been updated with more recent data on energy use
and emissions, and includes emission factors for five new material types.
Energy
Impacts of Waste Management, June 2002 (481.7 KB pdf)
This paper summarizes the energy impacts of waste management for common
material types, utilizing the life-cycle analysis data from EPA's GHG and
municipal solid waste management report listed above. The paper provides
a table of energy factors for different waste management methods and a
methodology for calculating the energy impacts of different waste management
practices. For a current version of this report, please visit the Reports,
Papers and Publications page.
