- October 3 - Review the recent webinar: Climate Leaders Farewell & New Recognition Opportunities and Resources
Launched in February 2002, Climate Leaders was an EPA industry-government partnership that worked with companies to develop comprehensive climate change strategies. Participating companies committed to reducing their impact on the global environment by completing a corporate-wide inventory of their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions based on a quality management system, setting aggressive reduction goals, and annually reporting their progress to EPA. Through program participation, companies created a credible record of their accomplishments and received EPA recognition as corporate environmental leaders.
In September, 2010, EPA announced (PDF) (1 pg, 62K, About PDF) that the Climate Leaders program would phase down its services and officially end the Climate Leaders program in September 2011. Basic information provides a historical perspective on Climate Leaders, its partners, and its accomplishments.
Many of the tools developed by EPA and used by Climate Leaders partners to reduce their GHG emissions are still available for use on this website. EPA continues to support the Federal Supplier Greenhouse Gas Emissions Inventory Pilot with the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) to assist small federal contractors measure and reduce their GHG emissions. This pilot program will continue through 2013.
In addition, EPA announced that it will, along with a consortium of three nonprofit organizations, co-sponsor a new national awards program to recognize exemplary corporate, organizational, and individual leadership in response to climate change. The consortium includes: The Climate Registry (The Registry), the Center for Climate and Energy Solutions (C2ES), and the Association of Climate Change Officers (ACCO).
