Cross-sector core emissions include direct sources (i.e., sources for which a company is directly responsible) and indirect emissions from electricity purchased by the reporting entity. The Cross-Sector Core Modules describe different methods companies may use to estimate emissions and outline some of the QA/QC and accuracy issues associated with the different approaches.
The following Cross-Sector Core Modules apply to many companies:
- Direct Emissions From Stationary Combustion (PDF) (36 pp, 822K, About PDF): This module is used to identify and estimate direct emissions of greenhouse gases (GHGs) from stationary (non-transport) combustion of fossil fuels at a facility (e.g., boilers, turbines, process heat). Updated May 2008
- Indirect Emissions From Purchases/Sales of Electricity and Steam (PDF) (26 pp, 1M, About PDF): This module is used to identify and estimate indirect emissions resulting from the purchase of electricity and/or steam. Updated July 2008
- Direct Emissions From Mobile Combustion Sources (PDF) (36 pp, 982K, About PDF): This module is used to identify and estimate direct GHG emissions associated with fossil fuel combustion in owned or operated mobile sources. The module is divided into Road, Air, Waterborne, Rail Transport, and Other Mobile Sources. Updated May 2008
- Direct HFC and PFC Emissions from Use of Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Equipment (PDF) (20 pp, 871K): This module is used to identify and estimate GHG direct hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) and perfluorocarbon (PFC) emissions resulting from manufacturing of all refrigeration/air conditioning equipment. Many industrial sectors also have process-related GHG emissions. Sector-Specific Core Modules aid in the quantification and reporting of these emissions.
