Sustainable Communities and Local Governments
- The Center for Chesapeake
Communities
assists local governments with their land management and
watershed initiatives. It provides communities with financial
and technical support for their environmental protection and
restoration efforts. - The Center of Excellence For Sustainable Development is a US Department of Energy project which hosts a funding opportunities and financing information webpage.
- Maryland's Smart Growth and
Neighborhood Conservation
web site has information on "Smart
Growth" legislation, a collection of programs that allows the
State to direct funding that supports locally-designated
growth areas and protects rural areas. This includes a
brownfields program. - The Ohio EPA
Office of Pollution Prevention
has compiled a directory of
financial assistance programs to assist companies in Ohio
find information on obtaining financing for environmental
projects. The site also provides contact information for assistance. - The Smart Growth
Network
is a coalition of developers,
planners, government officials, lending institutions,
community development organizations, architects,
environmentalists and community activists working on
encouraging metropolitan development. Web pages include a
list of case studies and an ongoing forum/discussion
group. - The Sustainable
Communities Network
includes Small Grants Program, Case
Studies, Smart Growth information. - Tools for
a Sustainable Community: One-Stop Guide for Local
Governments
is published by the International
Council for Local Environmental Initiatives, with the support
of EPA's Office of Sustainable Ecosystems and Communities.
Use this site to identify resources from the U.S. federal
government, and other agencies that can help local
governments create a sustainable community. The Site is
linked to other Internet sites that provide sustainability
information. - The USDA's Rural Development offers financial programs and technical assistance to rural communities, and promotes economic development. This page has links to the Business and Cooperative Programs, Utility Programs, and Community Development and Empowerment Programs.

website "...is an Internet based
clearinghouse providing information on innovations in all
areas of surface transportation finance. It has been created
with research monies provided by the National Cooperative
Highway Research Program (NCHRP) as a service to all involved
in financing transport infrastructure. InnovativeFinance.org
offers information on federal, state, local, and private
funding of highways, passenger rail and bus systems,
intermodal links, intelligent transportation systems, and
other related facilities, with an emphasis on innovative
alternatives to traditional funding methods."
Water Funding Sources
- Funding Sources
for Water Quality - The Water Quality Information Center
at the National Agricultural Library has compiled an
annotated list of funding sources, including US EPA and other
Federal agency sources, such as the US Department of Interior
and the US Department of Agriculture.
- Partners for Fish and
Wildlife Program - This US Fish and Wildlife Service
program offers technical and financial assistance to private
(non-federal) landowners to voluntarily restore wetlands and
other fish and wildlife habitats on their land.
- Water
2000 - The goal of the USDA's Rural Utilities Services'
Water 2000 initiative is to target Federal investment to
rural communities with the most serious drinking water
quality, quantity and dependability problems. This site has
information on funding and the latest announcements on
projects.

Environmental Organization Web Directory
- The Catalog of Federal
Domestic Assistance - 2000 Edition - The CFDA is a
government-wide compendium of all 1,424 Federal programs,
projects, services, and activities that provide assistance or
benefits to the American public.
- The Environmental
Hotline, Earth's 911
is "the nation's official, 24 hour public service resource
for geographically specific environmental and recycling
information". It is the result of a public / private
partnership between the Environmental Protection Agency, all
50 states, and dozens of public and private
organizations. - The Federal Information
Center was established in 1966. The Federal Information
Center (FIC) is a "single point of contact for people who
have questions about Federal agencies, programs, and
services". Select ' Federal Loans or Grants ' from the
menu on the left-hand side of the screen.
- The Maryland
Red Book - Catalog of State Assistance Programs
put out by the Maryland Office of State Planning is a
compilation of financial and technical aid provided by state
agencies. It can be searched by subject or agency and search
results are presented in a useful matrix format. - The New Jersey
Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) Grant &
Loan Programs
website provides a listing, by topic, of links to
grant and loan programs with detailed
descriptions. - The New York Stock
Exchange
provides a "[c]omprehensive list of commonly used
terms (and their definitions) in the securities and financial
industries." (glossary of financial terms.) Click on
Glossary on the Start Button at the bottom of the NYSE
Screen. - The Nonprofit
Resource Center
includes information on fundraising and grants. - The Pennsylvania
Infrastructure Investment Authority
has established the On-Lot Sewage Funding Program in
cooperation with the State Housing Finance Agency (PHFA) and
the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP). A brochure
is available in PDF format on the Pennsylvania Infrastructure
