The purpose of the executive summary is to present the major
findings of the
Lake Michigan Intensive Survey 1976-1977. The executive summary
presents the Great Lakes National Program Office's multi-media
environmental management program. This report includes the
recommendations drawn from the Intensive Survey Data and additional
information that became available after the survey.
The recommendations cover three areas and are briefly summarized
as follows:
- Toxic monitoring programs should continue to be
implemented on a basis todetermine effectiveness of remedial
activities.
- Nutrient monitoring strategy should be modified to
improve the ability to predict long term effects of the
phosphorus control remedial programs.
- Expansion of current knowledge in several significant
new problem areas is recommended.
