Strategic Outcomes and Ecosystem Goals
The Binational Program to Restore and Protect Lake Superior would like
to invite your comments on an important document describing Strategic
Outcomes and Ecosystem Goals for the Lake Superior basin ecosystem. As
you may know, the Binational Program is comprised of federal,
provincial, state and tribal governments, working together to ensure the
protection and restoration of the Lake Superior basin.
These ecosystem goals contain strategic outcomes and specific goals that
the Binational Program and the Lakewide Management Plan have determined
are necessary to achieve and protect a diverse, healthy and sustainable
Lake Superior ecosystem. Although a version of these goals was
originally included in the LaMP 2006, revisions were needed to better
organize the goals and to accommodate emerging issues like climate
change. In addition, we have included for the first time, goals related
to the aquatic ecosystem.
You have been identified by the leadership of the Binational Program as
someone whose input is important in order to produce a complete and
thorough document. In addition, you may know of others in your agency,
organization or community who would be interested in reviewing the
consolidated chapter -- please feel free to distribute this message to
them.
The ecosystem goals document as well as a companion document describing
the context of the goals and the definitions used, can be found at
http://www.epa.gov/glnpo/lakesuperior/index.html If the link does not
seem to operate, please cut and paste the address into your browser.
Once you reach the site, click on Current Documents and look for
“Ecosystem Goals Context and Definitions” and “Draft Ecosystem Goals.” A
copy of this “Invitation and Instructions for Commenters” is also posted
there. Comments are due by COB February 15, 2008 and should be submitted
