Green Power
- On April 22, 2003, EPA announced the purchase of green power to offset 100 percent of the electricity consumption at its Region 2 Headquarters office. EPA occupies approximately 35 percent of the Foley Square Building located in lower Manhattan. With deliveries beginning in June 2003, EPA entered into a three-year contractprocured by the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) with the Fenner Wind Power Projectfor the purchase of 6.2 million kilowatt hours (kWh) of green power annually in the form of renewable energy certificates (RECs). This contract supported the generation of renewable energy from 20 state-of-the-art, 1.5 megawatt wind turbines in Fenner, New York. The wind farm is the largest wind turbine facility east of the Mississippi.
