| Community Profile As a Green Power Partner, the City of College Park annually purchases more than 1.5 million kilowatt-hours of wind power (100 percent of its annual electricity use for city facilities and streetlights). College Park is also home to the national sustainability leader and EPA Green Power Partner, the University of Maryland (UMD). Ranked among the top green colleges in the nation, UMD has cut its carbon footprint 15 percent since 2005 and integrated sustainability into its teaching and operations. This partnership between the City, UMD, and dedicated homeowners and businesses in College Park is leading College Park to achieve greater sustainability in the future as a Green Power Community. Mayor Andrew Fellows stated “College Park’s commitment to sustainability is longstanding. It’s the smart thing to do. We know that going green, wisely managing our natural resources, and developing policies that reduce our carbon footprint improve the quality of our lives while making our future brighter.” | |
