Founded in 1812, the Academy of Natural Sciences is the oldest natural history museum in the Americas and a world leader in biodiversity and environmental research. For nearly 200 years, the Academy has carried out its mission to encourage and cultivate the sciences, exploring the remarkable diversity of our natural world and sharing these discoveries with the public through innovative exhibits, publications, and educational programming. Today, Academy scientists focus on critical issues in biodiversity, evolution and environmental science, while it’s Center for Environmental Policy works to inform and engage constituents, promote solutions, and build awareness on important environmental topics.
The Academy is getting all of its energy through renewable energy credits. “The Academy historically has had a strong commitment to environmental research and protection and to promoting environmental awareness and sustainability,” said President and CEO George Gephart. “The ability to utilize 100 percent third-party certified renewable energy for all of our energy needs furthers our commitment to the environment.”
