| Partner Profile State College Borough is serious about sustainability. Borough Council committed to sustainability in 2007 when it passed Resolution 944, a Commitment to be a Climate Protection Community, with a set of goals targeting the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. Borough Council recognized the importance of being a leader in the community. Since 2007, the Borough has pursued a number of projects to enhance the environmental sustainability of municipal operations and to encourage State College Borough residents to pursue similar projects at home. As part of this commitment, the Borough began purchasing renewable energy certificates (RECs) in 2011 and is continuing this purchase for a second year in the hope that it will inspire residents to take similar steps to conserve energy and support the generation of energy from renewable sources. The biggest benefit of purchasing RECs is the motivation it inspires for future energy efficiency projects. Paying the true cost for energy generation is a great motivator to harnessing the power of the nega-watt, the energy we save through energy conservation projects and best practices. | |
