Butte College was founded in 1967 and is situated on a 928 acre wildlife refuge nestled within the Sierra Nevada foothills of Northern California. The College is committed to reaching carbon neutrality by 2015; reducing its energy consumption and producing green power are two vital aspects of its strategy. Butte College's commitment to green power includes a three phase solar array installation. Phase I: two arrays which total 1.06 MW DC, Phase II: five arrays which total 858 kW DC, and Phase III: thirteen arrays which total 2.17 MW DC on the main campus and one array of 450 kW DC at the Chico Center.
