| Partner Profile CSU Bakersfield's commitment to environmental sustainability was driven by a cadre of nearly 300 faculty, staff, and students who encouraged President Horace Mitchell to sign the American College and University Presidents' Climate Commitment (ACUPCC) letter in 2007. "To reach our goal of becoming carbon neutral, the university purchases energy efficient appliances, produces at least 15 percent of our energy from renewable sources, builds all new construction to a minimum LEED silver equivalent standard, promotes multi-modal transportation to reduce single-occupant vehicle travel, and engages in waste reduction and recycling," stated President Mitchell. The biggest benefit of green power is the awareness of our campus community. A key lesson learned is to have committed faculty, staff, and students designated for the initiatives. | |
