| Partner Profile With three hospitals on four sites, six nursing homes, two adult living facilities and more than 8,000 associates, Catholic Health is a major consumer of resources. Large health systems use an enormous amount of resources, so Catholic Health has a responsibility to protect the environment and has made a commitment to find ways to reduce its carbon footprint. In September 2009, the health system signed an agreement with Constellation Energy to supply wind power for electricity at Catholic Health's facilities. That contract remains in place today. Catholic Health has found that efforts to reduce its carbon footprint are contagious. Since 2009, Catholic Health sponsored three electronic recycling days gathering more than nine tons of electronic waste annually. Also, Catholic Health sponsors annual pharmaceutical drop off days, which in 2011 collected and disposed 1,500 pounds of expired, unwanted or unused medication drugs. Catholic Health also implemented a system-wide single stream recycling program during 2010, diverting more then 760 tons of waste from landfills in its first year. | |
