| Partner Profile The City of Cottage Grove, Oregon, (population 9,345) is nestled at the southern end of the Willamette Valley. In 2008, the City of Cottage Grove committed to purchasing a portion of its total electrical energy load from renewable resources. In addition to purchasing green power for city operations, the Cottage Grove City Council expressed interest in participating in some program or effort to raise awareness regarding the need to develop renewable resources and reduce its dependency on energy sources that impact the environment. The Green Power Partnership and Green Power Community program appealed to all members of the City Council because it was a program with real measurable results with positive impacts. City officials feel that participation and the successful Green Power Community designation shows positive impacts to the environment and renewable energy development while coupling nicely with its existing conservation efforts and solar array development. "We've twice been recognized as an All-America City and now to be among the leaders in supporting renewable energy is a strong endorsement of our community as a place to grow and grow sustainably. Being recognized as a Green Power Community means that our community cares about the future of the environment and energy development and is willing to take positive action to make the changes needed," said Mayor Gary Williams. | |
