| Partner Profile Mount Rainier, Maryland, is a diverse and environmentally minded community located on the border of our nation’s capital in the Gateway Arts District of Prince George’s County. The city purchases more than 900,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of wind power electricity per year, and has a 14.1 kilowatt solar array on its City Hall. Following the passage of Mount Rainier’s comprehensive Sustainability Plan in 2011, and being certified as a Sustainable Maryland community, the city felt it made sense to move towards purchasing renewable energy for its power contract. In addition to allowing the city to walk the talk of sustainability, the city’s green power contract is also saving it quite a bit of money. “Mount Rainier is a leader in sustainable initiatives in the state of Maryland. Purchasing green power allows us to continue that leadership, and makes good economic sense as well. Being recognized as a Green Power Partner by the EPA will allow us to further promote green power in our community.” -- Jeannelle Wallace, City Manager, Mount Rainier, MD | |
