| Partner Profile Clif Bar & Company, a 2003 & 2004 Green Power Leadership Award winner, is an Emeryville, California-based maker of nutritious and organic foods and drinks for people on-the-go. A commitment to taking responsibility for their climate footprint is at the heart of their green power purchasing strategy. The company has purchased Carbon Offsets or RECs to offset the CO2 emissions generated by energy use beyond just electricity. They are currently offsetting energy use by their offices, fleet and by business travel. In addition they offset emissions from their supply chain, specifically by the bakeries and by shipping product from the bakeries to the customers. Since joining the EPA Green Power Partnership, Clif Bar's purchase of Carbon Offsets or RECs has increased as production has grown and has also increased as they expanded the scope of emissions they choose to offset. In 2007, Clif Bar & Company purchased their highest quantity of RECs to offset their historical carbon footprint dating back to the company's start in 1992. In 2010, Clif Bar & Company moved to a new office, where a new smart solar array has been built. When fully operational, 100% of this headquarters' electricity will be provided by this solar array, and 70 percent of the hot water will be from solar thermal. Clif Bar also encourages employees to save energy, use renewable energy, and reduce their carbon footprint through their Cool Commute and Cool Home programs. In 2011 Clif Bar also began encouraging their supply chain partners to measure and reduce their carbon footprints, to consider having an energy audit and joining the EPA Green Power Partnership as well. | |
