Partner Profile
Dell Inc. is a global provider of IT systems and services, headquartered in Round Rock, Texas. Dell's use of renewable energy is part of its plan to reduce its facilities' greenhouse gas emissions by 40 percent by 2015. Dell takes a three-step approach to its reduction strategy: 1) increase energy-efficiency 2) maximize purchases of green power and 3) responsibly offset remaining effects going forward. Dell began purchasing green power in 2003. Its global headquarters campus and a number of smaller facilities around the world are powered by 100 percent green electricity. In October 2009, Dell completed construction of a 516-panel solar PV array at the Round Rock campus that is designed to generate 130,000 kWh annually. The structure, located in an employee parking lot, shades 50 parking spaces and provides two charging stations for plug-in electric vehicles. "Integrating green power into our operations wherever and whenever possible is a key environmental and business strategy. It's critical that our industry take a leadership role in the transition to a green economy. Aggressive energy efficiency and renewable-power targets are essential", said Dane Parker, Dell's director of environment, health and safety.
