| Partner Profile Hostelling International New York City (HI-NYC) is a part of a nonprofit membership organization founded in 1934 to promote international understanding of the world and its people through hostelling. HI-NYC strives to operate our hostel in an environmentally responsible manner, working towards sustainability through energy efficiency improvements, recycling, and offsetting 100 percent of our electricity consumption with renewable wind energy credits. “Choosing to pursue sustainability is essentially woven into this organization’s DNA,” says HI-NYC General Manager George Finn. “A hostel is constructed based upon concepts of sharing spaces; this itself is the embodiment of reduced carbon footprints and more environmentally friendly practices…The question really becomes ‘How can we afford not do these things?’” | |
